Chronograph Solar – No Battery Change, No Compromise
If you make deliberate choices, you don't want to have to justify them – they should just be visible. The Chronograph Solar does exactly that: the solar cell pattern on the dial isn't hidden, it's a design element. The technology that powers the watch is the design. Wear it and nothing needs explaining.
Solar – what that means day to day
The dial charges the watch through light – natural and artificial. With enough ambient light in daily life, no battery change is needed. The energy reserve runs to around five months – leave the watch in a drawer for a while and it'll still be running when you come back to it. A sub-dial shows the current charge level, so you always know where you stand.
Chronograph function
Beyond the solar charging, the Chronograph Solar is a fully capable stopwatch: seconds, minutes and 24-hour display on separate sub-dials, plus a date function. The Epson VR43B quartz movement runs at ±20 seconds per month – more than accurate enough for everyday use.
Superluminova
BGW9 Superluminova on the hands – white in daylight, glowing turquoise blue in the dark. Readability holds even when the light disappears.
Case and materials
42.5 mm diameter, brushed 316L steel case – hypoallergenic, corrosion-resistant, robust. At 10.9 mm height the Chronograph Solar sits slightly taller than a pure quartz model – that's construction-related and standard for solar watches. Water resistance to 5 ATM: rain and hand washing are fine. The sapphire-hardened mineral glass with inner anti-reflective coating protects against scratches and stays readable in direct sunlight.
Who is the Chronograph Solar right for?
For anyone who wants a technically considered watch where function and design aren't separate categories. The Chronograph Solar doesn't compromise on anything a good chronograph should do, and adds the solar drive as a distinctive feature in its own right. If you want no battery changes but still want a precise, good-looking model, this is the obvious choice.
The strap
The steel mesh strap sits close to the wrist, adjusts precisely and suits the technical character of the watch well. The leather strap gives the Chronograph Solar more warmth and makes it wearable beyond purely sporty contexts. The linked steel bracelet emphasises the robustness of the case. All straps swap tool-free.
